On 22 May, JAS members were treated to a private tour of the Metropolitan Police’s Crime Museum at New Scotland Yard.  Formerly known as the Black Museum, the collection houses criminal memorabilia collected by the Metropolitan Police from the 1870s onwards. On 26 April 2013 the John Adams Society held its first event in Scotland, which was hosted by the Royal Society of Edinburgh and attended by JAS members, other IVLP alumni who we hope will be joining the Society, and others from across business and academia.  The focal point of the evening was a thoroughly captivating and inspiring presentation by Olympic Rowing Gold Medallist Katherine Grainger.

The Society’s second Annual Lecture 2012 took place on Thursday 15th November at Deputy Chief of Mission, Minister Barbara Stephenson’s home, Wychwood House. This year’s guest lecturer was Heather Smith, President of Rock the Vote, the nonpartisan organisation famed for mobilising and empowering the US youth vote.

During the Annual General Meeting on March 6, members took a moment to share their thoughts on what Society membership brings them and what their highlights were from JAS’s first year.  Special AGM guest speaker, Ambassador Ereli, and JAS Chairman Muddassar Ahmed also explained why alumni associations, such as JAS, are important for US/UK relations.  Hear what they all had to say below:

JAS members gathered at the U.S. Embassy for the Society’s first Annual General Meeting on March 6, 2012.  The meeting was hosted by Deputy Cultural Attaché, Kate Bentley, who, as Returning Officer, also announced the results of the JAS Executive Committee Elections. Full details of the new Committee can be found on the Elections page.

The 2012 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund competition is now open! The AEIF offers $1,000,000 to help teams of alumni tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues.  Administered by the State Department’s Alumni Affairs Division, AEIF awards up to $25,000 per winning team. All State Alumni are welcome to participate.

JAS members gathered on the evening of Thursday 19 January for an informal networking drinks event at the Pavillion End pub near St Pauls in the City of London.  The evening provided a great opportunity for members and U.S. Embassy staff to get to know one another in person.  For those standing for election to the Executive Committee it was also an ideal time to canvas support.
