I am delighted to extend my warmest congratulations regarding the launch of the John Adams Society.  The name that you have chosen for this important alumni association serves as a reminder of the historic alliance that binds the United Kingdom and the United States – an alliance that is built on common values, aspirations, and concerns.  State Department exchange programs have played an important role in bringing us closer together over the years as our citizens have forged lasting relationships across all sectors of our two societies.  I have no doubt that the personal connections strengthened by this network will further contribute to the broad cooperation and real friendship that has existed between the British and American people for over two centuries.  I look forward to its many successes in the years to come.
