JAS member, David Jacques, has agreed to give an exclusive talk to the John Adams Society about the very recent and exciting developments at Stonehenge.

David has been leading the archaeological dig at Stonehenge for 10 years.  In the last few weeks there has been an exciting new discovery in the area around Stonehenge where David and his team have uncovered a stone age ‘eco home’ – built around the base of a fallen tree and using animal hides for cover. At 6,000 years old, the site is more than 1,000 years older than Stonehenge.

David’s team has also discovered the ‘cradle of Stonehenge’ and is now explaining its back story. The site has a radio carbon date range between 7500-4246BC and David will be talking to us about this site being the longest known place in Mesolithic Europe and the house being the oldest ever found at Stonehenge.  David will explain how the radio carbon dates provide a link between the first monument building at Stonehenge and this site, shedding light on the communities who built them and why there was something very special in that landscape before Stonehenge.

Join us at ‘The Society of Antiquaries’ (Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BE) for this special JAS evening lecture about Stonehenge on 23rd November from 1830. David will be talking about his time at Stonehenge and will be sharing some relics from the site and explaining many of the secrets they have been discovering in the ground about he we lived thousands of years ago.  This is your opportunity to touch a piece of ancient British history.

This dig has been the subject of recent BBC Horizon documentary (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0675hcv) and just last week featured on ITV (http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/update/2015-10-29/exciting-find-near-stonehenge-could-be-under-threat-by-road/)

This is a one off lecture by David and is not to be missed.  We are very grateful to David for making the trip to London to share this fascinating story and we very much hope to organise a trip to Stonehenge with David in 2016.
